The coal production in Ukraine fell by 12.2%

The coal deficit in Ukraine did not become an excuse for increasing its production on the territory of the country controlled by Kiev.

August 22, the State Statistics Service of Ukraine in its report on the industry reported a fall in coal production by 12.2 percent compared to the same period in 2016, which is 14.4 million tons. Fall compared with the last month of this year - 1.9 percent.

Coal mining declined significantly when military operations began in the Donetsk region in 2014, and there, as you know, the heart of the coal mining industry of Ukraine.

To ensure the Ukrainian coal energy industry, about 24 million tons of coal per year are needed, of which more than 9 million tons of anthracite. But the main deposits of anthracite remained on the territory of Donbass, where there is no state control.

Prime Minister of Ukraine Vladimir Groysman said that already in this heating season, the volumes of anthracite consumption will be reduced to 6 million tons per year. It is also planned to modernize thermal power plants by transferring them to another group and importing coal. At the beginning of September, 85 thousand tons of anthracite from the USA will be delivered to the territory of Ukraine, and by the end of September - 125 thousand tons.
