Ukrainian steelmakers produced 4.431 million tonnes of steel in January–September 2026, down 19.8% from the same period last year. The decline accelerated sharply in September, when output totalled 131,000 tonnes, compared with 277,000 tonnes in August, industry association Ukrmetallurgprom said.
Pig iron production fell 22.9% over the nine months to 4.463 million tonnes, while rolled steel output dropped 23% to 3.729 million tonnes. In September, production amounted to 113,000 tonnes of pig iron and 137,000 tonnes of rolled products—about half the previous month’s levels.
According to data published by Ukraine’s State Statistics Service on November 3, overall metallurgical production fell 18.2% year on year in January–September. Coke and refined petroleum product output declined 18.1%, while electricity, gas, steam and air-conditioning supply fell 16.7%. Mining and quarrying was down 0.2%.
The decline comes amid Russian attacks on industrial and energy infrastructure, power supply constraints and shutdowns at some major plants. The statistics service measures a broad range of products, while Ukrmetallurgprom reports output volumes for specific types of metal products.
Overall, Ukraine’s industrial production fell 1.9% in the first nine months of the year, with the annual decline reaching 9.2% in September. The downturn in steelmaking affects related sectors, including iron ore mining, rail transport and energy, and limits metal product exports. The statistics do not include temporarily occupied territories or some areas where fighting is ongoing or has taken place.
