Rio Tinto launches the "world's largest robot" in Pilbar

Autohaul project in Pilbar created the world's first automated railway network for long transportation

Part of the project "Mine of the Future"

After more than ten years, the Rio Tinto mining giant officially launched its Autonomous trains worth $ 1.37 billion ($ 940 million), which is considered the world's largest robot, which, according to the company, will present more flexibility and efficiency in the Pilbar region in Western Australia.

The completion of the Autohaul plan, which is part of the project “Minnitan of the Future”, launched in 2008 in Rio, will allow Shakhtar to transport iron ore from 16 mines to the ports in Dampieus and on Cape Lambert.

According to Rio, the autonomous system also eliminates the need for almost 1.5 million km of automobile trips per year, which were previously required to transport drivers on trains and vice versa.

A 2.4 kilometer -length park, which is controlled remotely from the operating center in Perth, now passes through a network of 1700 km of railway tracks. The first is deployed last year, it was Driverless train that more than 4.5 million km drove safely, added Rio.

The second largest in the world, Shakhtar also expands his park of autonomous dump trucks, also controlled from Perth, with 30% of his park, or about 130 trucks that will be autonomous by the end of the year.

Autonomous system allows you to control trucks by a central controller, not a driver. He uses the predetermined GPS courses for automatic navigation on roads and intersections and always knows the actual locations, speeds and directions of the movement of all vehicles. The so -called automotive plan is part of the project “Mine of the Future”, which the company launched in 2008 and which also included the introduction of autonomous trucks, automated drilling and deployment of an operating center near the Perth Airport
