Sandvik opens a modern flexible pipe line in China

Sandvik, a Swedish steel company, has launched a modern line of flexible pipes for the production of high-grade stainless steel seamless products.

Sandvik pipe plant in Zhenjiang

The Swedish company Sandvik established the production of small diameter stainless steel seamless products at its pipe plant in Zhenjiang near Shanghai, China.

According to the company, the obligation to produce longer flexible flexible pipes in the field will allow customers from the Asia-Pacific region to receive deliveries within 28 days, instead of waiting for four to six months for the coils to have a greater length of profit from abroad.

Satish Sharath, president of the APV division of Sandvik Tube, said the new spiral tube offering was another step in Sandvik’s desire to increase the competitiveness of customers in China and throughout the Asia-Pacific region. “We are seeing a growing demand for projects in the chemical, oil and gas, alternative energy and other industries for urgent local supply of flexible pipes. Compact coils, ease of transportation and the ability to accurately cut lengths in difficult situations allow customers to work quickly and efficiently, with fewer connectors and zero risk of system leakage, ”he said.

Initially, the focus will be on Sandvik 3R60 pipes (ASTM TP 316 / 316L) - austenitic nickel-chromium steel with a minimum molybdenum content of 2.6% and low carbon content - for outer diameters from 6.0 mm to 14 mm. The spiral pipe is delivered in horizontal winding on wooden coils in plastic packaging of standard (55–260 m) or longer length (135–611 m), or in the form of a bulk roll bound in boxes. The new line complements the current Sandvik offer of six-meter direct hydraulic and metering tubes, which are already available "in the widest range of sizes and varieties on the market today."

Glenn Darley, regional director of sales and marketing in China, said that most of the tubes look about the same. “But numerous tests show that Sandvik does set standards in various product and grade standards, consistently providing the highest levels for key performance criteria, such as ovality, corrosion resistance, surface smoothness and tight tolerances. This - and our deep experience in the field of materials - is very important for end users, who often discover how difficult local estimates can lead to system leaks, unplanned maintenance or, even worse, plant shutdown. ”

According to Darley, the 28-day delivery promise means that in reality Sandvik coiled tubing is now “closer than you think.” In addition to Sandvik 3R60 ™ (ASTM TP 316 / 316L), the company will supply other high quality varieties. products from alloyed and duplex pipes in a wide range of sizes. He encourages customers to ask about it, adding that they will be processed on a case-by-case basis, depending on the country, and they may be subject to slightly different delivery times than the 28-day warranty, which is now available for standard varieties.

Paul Tsai, general manager of the production division of Zhenjiang Mill, said that the new proposal combines advanced production technologies and unique manufacturing know-how with extensive technical support. The surveillance plant, located 250 km north-west of Shanghai, produces a straight and curved pipe for heat exchangers, hydraulic and instrumental pipes of austenitic and duplex stainless steel, as well as high-alloy austenitic stainless steels and nickel alloys.

Satish Sharath said Sandvik's commitment to China and the Asia-Pacific region has more than 40 years. “We trust distributors or sales offices in almost every country, opened our high-tech plant in Zhenjing in 2011, we have another pipe plant in India and one in North America, in addition to our core research and development and pipe manufacturing in Sandviken, Sweden. In other words, a lot of spare capacity.”
