US Steel Takes Control of Coronavirus COVID-19

measures to prevent the spread of the virus

US Steel has taken a number of measures to minimize the risks to its workforce, including eliminating all non-essential business travel, limiting visitors to our business outside, encouraging employees to avoid large meetings and using telephone or video conferencing to conduct business. US Spokeswoman Migan Cox said: “We continue to monitor the situation and regularly disseminate this information throughout our organization, including warning tips. Contingency planning in our organization is ongoing, and we will activate these plans as appropriate. We have taken a number of measures to reduce the risks to our workforce, including the cancellation of all non-essential business trips, the restriction of visitors to our facilities from outside".

The steelmaker does not currently expect production interruptions. Cox said. “At present, US Steel is not experiencing problems in the United States with the necessary materials. As usual, we have been in contact and tracked all raw materials since the outbreak. Although we do not see the current signs of shipping problems, we do have contingency plans in place. The coronavirus, however, highlights the common vulnerabilities of the supply chain, which is the main reason why we believe that a strong domestic steel industry is needed. Products that are manufactured and used domestically are more sustainable as they avoid threats to national security, provide destruction and environmental costs for trans-oceanic shipping."
