German galvanizing and coil processing group Wuppermann has committed HUF 5.3 billion ($ 17 million) to modernize its Hungarian plant near the port of Gyr-Gönü.

According to a company representative, the money was used to invest in fixed assets. This includes new equipment, increased production capacity, process development, warehouse and logistics automation, buildings and projects that support sustainable development.

For example, the plant will be equipped with a photovoltaic system on the roofs of the production halls, which is scheduled for completion in the spring of 2022. She emphasizes that the use of solar energy will save about 200,000 euros (236,000 USD) in electricity costs per year and will reduce CO2 production by 775 tons per year. Further investments in equipment will be extended until 2026.

Wuppermann Hungary began operations in 2016, essentially as the second version of the Wuppermann plant in Murdijk, the Netherlands. The enterprise carries out galvanizing and annealing of hot-rolled strip, and then its dispatch in coils and strips with cuts. With four production workshops and around 180 employees, Wuppermann in Hungary currently processes around 750,000 tonnes of sheet per year.
