ArcelorMittal signs € 1 billion green investment memorandum

Memorandum of Understanding with the Government of Spain

ArcelorMittal

ArcelorMittal, the world's leading steel company, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Spanish government to invest € 1 billion in decarbonization technology at the ArcelorMittal plant in Gijón.

The investment will be used to build a 2.3 million tonne direct reduced iron (DRI) green hydrogen plant and a 1.1 million tonne hybrid electric arc furnace (EAF) at the Gijón plant, which could move the previous oxygen-fired blast furnace ... from steelmaking to the DRI-EAF process route.

ArcelorMittal Sestao was supposed to be the first steel mill in the world to achieve zero carbon emissions by 2025.
