ArcelorMittal said there will be no impact on the finished steel production at Barra Mansa or to customer service.

Barra Mansa was part of the deal with long steelmaker Votorantim Siderurgia in 2018. It has about 800,000 mt of annual crude steel production capacity and produces mainly rebar and wire rod. The acquisition of Votorantim’s steel arm by ArcelorMittal was approved by Brazilian antitrust regulation agency Cade in the first quarter of 2018. The acquisition added up to 1.8 million mt of crude steel production capacity to ArcelorMittal.

“Its [Barra Mansa] finishing facilities remain fully operational and will be supplied with semi-finished products from other ArcelorMittal Brazil sites,” the company said in an emailed statement, adding that this is part of the integration process capturing “significant synergies.” “ArcelorMittal Brazil is confident its recently expanded footprint leaves it well positioned to capture future growth opportunities,” the company said, adding that the site remains an important part of its Brazilian operations.
