Steel Exports by Japan See Sixth Straight Year of Decline

The volume of steel exports in March 2019 alone amounted to about 2.739 million tons, which was significantly reduced by almost 18%.

Trade statistics, published by the Ministry of Finance of Japan (MOF), implies a sixth year-on-year reduction in exports have become a country. For the entire 2018 fiscal year, exports amounted to 34.284 million tons, which is more than 8% less than in the previous fiscal year. The value of exports rose slightly by 0.8% year over year and amounted to 3337 billion yen.

The main destination of Japanese steel exports was the Asian region, which imported 27.808 million tons of steel from Japan. Regional imports declined slightly by 6.6% compared with the previous fiscal. Among Asian countries, China became the largest importer, receiving 5.247 million tons of steel from Japan, and then South Korea with revenues of 5.209 million tons. The export of Japanese steel to the ASEAN countries slightly decreased by almost 3% to 12.213 million tons.
