Trump hopes to increase American steel production

US President Donald Trump signed a decree aimed at the development of the US steel industry.

The order, which falls under the America Purchase Act, aims to bring the US steel and cast iron production quota used in public infrastructure projects to 95% - compared to the current figure of 50%.

Donald Trump hopes to increase the use of US iron and steel production in infrastructure projects by the US government. It is also said that the number of American components in American manufactured products should increase from 50 to 75%.

"The strong benefits of domestic procurement for infrastructure-funded projects financed by the federal budget are vital to the health of the domestic steel industry and helped to create jobs in production and build American infrastructure," said Thomas Gibson, CEO of the American Institute of Iron and Steel.

This move may be a blow to Canada - the country is the largest steel supplier in the United States. According to the Canadian Association of Steel Manufacturers, almost 90% of it has been exported to the United States.
