The monthly production of liquid steel in the Middle East region has grown significantly - by more than 3% in the month of June this year. This is consistent with data published by the World Steel Association.

Regional production amounted to 3.108 million tons in June 1919, an increase of 3.4% compared with 3.004 million tons in the corresponding month a year earlier. The increase in production by Iran, Qatar and the UAE was partially offset by a decrease in production in Saudi Arabia.

Saudi Arabia recorded a marked decrease in steel production. The volume of production in the country decreased by 7.5% compared to the previous year and amounted to about 425,000 tons in June this year. Production for the same month a year earlier amounted to 460,000 tons.

Meanwhile, in Iran there was an increase in production by 6.1% from 2.040 million tons in June 2018 to 2.165 million tons in June this year. Qatar's steel production showed a slight increase of 2.6% from 225,000 tons to 231,000 tons during the year. Steel production in the UAE also increased by 2.8% to 287,000 tons, compared with 279,000 tons in June 18.

Steel production in the region in January-June 2019 amounted to 18.312 million tons. This compares with 17.557 million tons produced from January to June in 2018. In all districts, with the exception of Qatar, production growth was recorded compared to the previous year. Iran continued to be the leading producer in the region with a production volume of 12.788 million tons. Steel production by other countries is as follows: Saudi Arabia (2.583 million tons), the United Arab Emirates (1.665 million tons) and Qatar (1.289 million tons).
