Employees of Metalloinvest and the Ural Metallurgical Plant, with the participation of the Central Scientific Research Institute of Engineering, are developing a technology for the production of plate from new unique steel grades. These plates are suitable for construction equipment intended for receiving, transporting and storing liquefied natural gas in arctic conditions. The technology for the production of plate from these new steel grades, which contain nickel and are of type 0H6, has been developing since the spring of 2019. In autumn, this steel was successfully smelted on Ural steel, and a batch of sheets 12–50 mm thick was also tested. rolled in thickness. The production of new cryogenic steel grades will allow the Company to strengthen its position in the market for highly profitable products.

Researchers at TsNIIMash are currently testing the quality of the metal, as well as the welding and performance characteristics of the trial hire. New steel grades have superior characteristics compared to existing Russian and foreign counterparts, and also contribute to a 25% reduction in the cost of manufacturing LNG equipment.

Metallurgists of Novotroitsk have experience in the development and production of metal for cold climates. In November 2019, cooperation between Ural Steel and the Central Research Institute of Ferrous Metallurgy named after I.P. Bardina won a gold medal from the organizing committee of the 25th Metal-Expo'2019 International Industrial Exhibition. The first place was awarded for the development and industrial use of strip production technology using steel of strength class X70 (K60) for the construction of a gas collection network at the Yamal-LNG natural gas plant.
