World crude steel production in 2020

In 2020, global steel production reached 1,864.0 million tonnes, 0.9% less than in 2019.

In 2020, Asia produced 1,374.9 million tonnes of steel, 1.5% more than in 2019. China's steel production in 2020 reached 1,053.0 million tonnes, up 5.2% over 2019. China's share of global steel production increased from 53.3% in 2019. up to 56.5% in 2020. India's steel production in 2020 was 99.6 million tonnes, 10.6% less than in 2019. Japan produced 83.2 million tonnes in 2020, down 16.2% from 2019. South Korea produced 67.1 million tonnes, down 6.0% from 2019.

In 2020, the EU produced 138.8 million tonnes of steel, 11.8% less than in 2019. Germany produced 35.7 million tonnes of steel in 2020, which is 10.0% less than in 2019.

In the CIS, melting was 102.0 million tons in 2020, which is 1.5% more than in 2019. It is estimated that 73.4 million tonnes were produced in Russia in 2020, which is 2.6% more than in 2019. Ukraine produced 20.6 million tons in 2020, which is 1.1% less than in 2019.

North American steel production was 101.1 million tonnes in 2020, down 15.5% from 2019. The United States produced 72.7 million tonnes of steel in 2020, down 17.2% from 2019.

The Middle East produced 45.4 million tonnes of steel in 2020, up 2.5% on 2019. Iran is estimated to have produced 29.0 million tonnes in 2020, up 13.4% over 2019.

Annual steel production in South America was 38.2 million tonnes in 2020, down 8.4% from 2019. Brazil produced 31.0 million tonnes in 2020, down 4.9% from 2019.

Steel production in Turkey in 2020 was 35.8 Mt, which is 6.0% more than in 2019.

Africa produced 17.2 Mt of steel in 2020, which is in line with production in 2019.

In 2020, Oceania produced 6.1 million tonnes of steel, down 1.4% from 2019.
