China's cancellation of export duty exemptions will lead to higher steel prices

Chinese government canceled 13% discount

steel production

The Chinese government has canceled a 13% export duty rebate on cold rolled steel and galvanized steel products since August.

Some market participants indicated that domestic prices for cold rolled steel and galvanized steel products should rise immediately due to the removal of export duty exemptions. However, cold-rolled steel has really grown, while galvanized steel products have not changed.

The government of Taiwan has already imposed anti-dumping duties on Chinese galvanized steel products, so the export of Chinese galvanized steel to Taiwan is not that large. Therefore, this measure will not affect the Taiwan galvanized steel product market.

The weather is currently having a major impact on prices for galvanized steel products, far more than China's elimination of export duty rebates.
