The Keliber lithium project of the South African mining giant Sibanye-Stillwater, worth about 800 million euros, will start in western Finland, in the Central Ostrobothia region, reports the portal Yle.
“Finnish lithium production has received permission to start: a project (...) worth almost 800 million euros will be launched,” the publication says.
Keliber will be the first project to mine battery lithium class in Europe.
“The Keliber lithium project is the most advanced integrated lithium project in Europe (EU), with a planned production volume of lithium hydroxide monohydrate (LiOH) with battery quality of approximately 15 thousand tons per year for more than 18 years,” says a press release from Sibanye-Stillwater.
